Global Settings: Experience Pulses

Experience Pulses are short surveys sent to hiring managers after key moments in a job's lifecycle. They help your team understand how the hiring process felt from the hiring manager's perspective and capture feedback you can review in Insights.
The settings on this page apply to your whole organization. They control whether hiring manager pulses are turned on, what defaults new jobs inherit, how surveys are delivered, and (when available) which questions appear on the survey.
Where to find these settings
In the left sidebar, open Settings, then select Experience Pulses. The page title reads Experience Pulse settings.
Only users with an Admin role can access this page. If you do not see Experience Pulses under Settings, your organization may not have this feature enabled yet — contact your candidate.fyi account team if you need access.
Turn hiring manager pulses on or off
Enable hiring manager experience pulses is the main switch for your organization.
When this is on, hiring manager pulse surveys can be sent for jobs in your organization (subject to the job-level settings described below).
When this is off, no hiring manager pulses are sent. Job-level controls are grayed out, and hiring managers see a message that your organization has disabled hiring manager pulses.
Changes save automatically when you toggle the switch. A success message — Settings Updated Successfully — appears in the top-right corner.
Defaults for new jobs
Once pulses are enabled, you can set organization-wide defaults that apply when a new job is created. Individual jobs can override these later from the job's Job Overview panel.
Default for new jobs
Default for new jobs controls whether hiring manager pulses start as on or off for newly created jobs.
On by default — New jobs will have hiring manager pulses enabled unless someone turns them off for that job.
Off by default — New jobs will not send pulses unless someone turns them on for that job.
When you first turn on On by default, the system also sets a default trigger (see below) if one is not already selected.
Default trigger for new jobs
This setting appears when Default for new jobs is set to On by default.
Default trigger for new jobs sets when a pulse survey is sent. You can choose:
Job Closed — A survey is sent when the job is closed.
Application Hired — A survey is sent when a candidate is marked as hired on the job.
These defaults apply to new jobs only. You can change the trigger on any individual job from Job Overview using the Pulse trigger row.
Default pulse channel
If your organization has Slack connected with permission to send messages, you will also see Default pulse channel. Choose how pulse surveys are delivered by default:
Slack — Surveys are sent as a Slack direct message.
Email — Surveys are sent by email.
Individual hiring managers can override this with their own default communications channel setting. If Slack is not fully connected, this option may not appear — email will be used instead.
Survey questionnaire
Some organizations also see a Survey questionnaire section below the main settings. This section is only available when your account has customizable survey questions enabled.
Every hiring manager pulse survey always includes:
An overall rating question: How would you rate the overall experience with the hiring process? (rated 1–5 using emoji)
Open text feedback at the end
Between those, you can add your own questions. All questions use the same 1–5 emoji rating scale.
To edit the questionnaire, hover over the Survey questionnaire card and click the pencil icon. In the Edit questionnaire window you can:
Add new questions with Add question
Reorder questions by dragging the handle on the left
Remove a question with the trash icon
Save your changes with Save changes
When saved successfully, you will see Questionnaire updated successfully.
How settings work together with individual jobs
Organization settings on this page set the starting point. On each job's Job Overview panel, editors and admins can override:
Hiring manager pulse — Turn pulses on or off for that specific job
Pulse trigger — Choose Job Closed or Application Hired for that job
If organization-level pulses are disabled, job-level controls are unavailable.
What hiring managers experience
When a pulse is triggered, the hiring manager receives the survey through the default channel (Slack or email). The message subject line begins with Hiring Feedback.
They complete the survey on a page titled Experience Pulse, rating each question with emoji (1–5), entering open text feedback, and clicking Save.
If they have not responded, a reminder is sent after a few days. Pulse links expire two weeks after the survey is first delivered.
Where to review responses
Recruiting team members can review hiring manager pulse results under Insights → Pulses, on the Hiring Manager tab (Pulses Insights).
Hiring managers can view their own pending and completed pulses in Experience Center under their profile.
