General Settings: Overview

The General settings page is where admins manage core organization details and a few access permissions that apply across candidate.fyi. Use it to confirm your organization name, set the candidate portal web address, and control whether certain users can update their own information or interview preferences.
Who can access this page
Only users with the Admin role can open Settings > General. If you do not see Settings in the left sidebar, ask an admin on your team to make the change or update your role.
How to get there
In the left sidebar, click Settings.
Under Settings, click General.
The page title at the top reads General settings.
Organization details
This section controls how your organization appears and where candidates access your portal.
Organization name
Your organization name is shown throughout the candidate portal and other candidate-facing areas.
Hover over the row and click the pencil icon to edit.
Enter the name and click the checkmark to save, or the X to cancel.
The name is required — you cannot save a blank value.
When saved successfully, a green confirmation message appears at the top of the screen: Settings Updated Successfully.
Portal subdomain
The portal subdomain is the web address where candidates access your interview portal. The page displays it as your-subdomain.candidate.fyi.
Hover over the row and click the pencil icon to edit.
Enter only the subdomain portion (the part before .candidate.fyi).
Click the checkmark to save, or the X to cancel.
The subdomain is required — you cannot save a blank value.
Changing the subdomain updates the portal URL candidates use. Coordinate with your team before changing it, especially if you have already shared portal links with candidates.
Access permissions
These toggles control what non-admin users in your organization are allowed to do on their own.
Allow users to update own profile
When this toggle is on, users can edit their name, email, and other personal information in their profile.
When it is off, users cannot update those profile details themselves.
Flip the switch to turn this on or off. Changes save immediately when you toggle the switch.
Allow users to update interview settings
If you see this toggle, it controls whether users can change their own interview scheduling preferences and availability (for example, timezone, buffer times, and working hours on their Interviewing preferences profile page).
When the toggle is on, users below the Editor role can still update those interview settings. When it is off, only Editors and above can change interview settings.
This toggle only appears if your organization has group scheduling enabled. If you do not see it, your organization may not have that feature turned on.
If something goes wrong
If a required field is left blank, the page shows an error and will not save until you enter a value.
If an update fails for another reason, a red error message appears at the top of the screen.
